2022 CMLP Electric Rates Narrative

All of Concord Municipal Light’s electric rates are changing effective with the January 2022 bills.

Why are rates changing?

CMLP charges electric customers what it costs to buy electricity and operate the distribution grid in Concord. Market prices for electricity fluctuate, and so CMLP periodically changes rates to reflect the most recent market costs. It is estimated that capacity costs will decrease in 2022 relative to 2021 while distribution and energy costs will increase.

What changes will customers see?

Customers will see a 3 to 5% increase in their meter charge. Distribution costs are expected to increase 6%. Capacity charges will be reduced 10%. Charges for base power will increase 4%. However, to manage what are expected to be extremely high energy prices this winter due to global energy supply and demand, CMLP will also impose a Power Cost Adjustment Clause (“PCA”) in 2022. The charge will start out at $0.00900 per kilowatt hour and may change later in the year if we have a milder or colder than expected winter.
