How the recent rain events are impacting capacity at Town’s Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Town’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is operating at its permit limit set by EPA and DEP. An unusually wet winter coupled with unseasonably high temperatures have created high groundwater levels across the region.  While higher groundwater condition will cause seepage into our aging wastewater collection system, flow conditions can be significantly exacerbated by private sump pumps which are illicitly connected to sanitary sewer system.
