Meter Safety
CMLP would like to remind all electricians, electrical contractors and customers that removing a meter seal and or an electric meter is not only illegal, but also dangerous. Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 164 explicitly makes it illegal to unlawfully and intentionally injure or destroy, or suffer to be injured or destroyed, any meter, pipe, conduit, wire, line, pole, lamp, or other apparatus… The law is primarily aimed at preventing theft of services, unauthorized interference with utility assets, and avoiding any damage to utility property, all which CMLP takes very seriously. Under the law, any theft of service, evidence of theft of service, or damage to CMLP property is punishable by fines, imprisonment, or triple damages. CMLP has a legal responsibility to keep its customers safe, preserve the integrity of our equipment and system, and to prevent theft. We appreciate your understanding and professionalism when working on our system.
