Mahjong, a game that originated in China, is commonly played by four players. Similar to the Western card game Rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy and calculation and involves a certain degree of chance. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. The winning hand must score a minimum number of points.
Due to the pandemic, our Mahjong group currently meets on Zoom and members play together using a separate online Mahjong gaming platform.
Mahjong is played on Wednesdays from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you are brand new to Mahjong, the group suggests learning a bit about the game first - either on line or at the library - and then sitting in to observe until you are confident to join. If you are interested in joining this temporarily remote group, please call the COA at any time for information. A group leader will call you to help you get started! 978 318 3020.
